Checker play
After a double hit I was fortunate enough to roll my best number. Although it's tough to go too wrong with this roll there is clearly a best way to play it which is true with most sets of doubles. A best way that escaped me because I was all hyped on my great roll thinking the blitz was on.
Usually there is nothing wrong with putting a second checker on the bar while making two points in your board. However there are times to go for maximum damage and this was one of those times. By hitting on the 16pt and making the 4pt, you put three checkers on the bar, get a back checker moving, avoid making the deep 2pt, and get a great chance to double on the next shake.
Key points to remember: Feel free to put more than 2 checkers on the bar and go for maximum damage, avoid making deep points early in the game, don't overextend yourself if you can keep a solid positional advantage.
