Checker play
Challenge the Outfield
Not a dumb play I typically make but worth noting for a lesson. When you've gotten lucky enough to pick off a checker in the bearoff you have to try and contain it. Controlling the outfield is key to containment and that's what I should be trying to acheive here. Even though I am a little vulnerable on the 24pt if I leave, and it would be nice to slot the 1pt, controlling the outfield is far more important because it may provide me with the only shot I'll get.
Key to Remember:
There is much talk about "containment" in backgammon strategy but controlling the outfield is paramount to acheiving it. If there is ever a containment problem it is usually HOW to control the outfield, not WHEN.
