Here is one of those tricky little shifting plays
that people don't even see as an option. It is the only good play and
everything else is a huge blunder. I have to hit here so white can't escape and
completely control the outfield. By playing 6/1, 6/5* I maintain a 3pt
board, have good chances of covering on the next roll if I am not hit and
white has a blot in their board even if I do get hit. Anything else just
wastes checkers and puts them out of play. Keys to
remember: Always keep the shift in mind in the middle to late
game, often it can make the difference. You can play a little more
aggressively when your opponent has a blot in their board. You
have to make the big play if your opponent is sure to escape
otherwise.
