There are times to go for it and make a big play when you
are behind and have nothing to lose. However you can take the joke
too far and make the big play for no logical reason. If hitting loose on
the 5pt works out, great, but I still have a lot of work to do. If it doesn't
(and in this case there are so many return shots that it usually won't),
things will go very very bad with all those blots I left laying around. By just
cleaning up my blots and putting the pressure on my opponent to get all
of those checkers around, I am far better off. Keys to
remember: When your opponent is in a tough position, don't give them an
easy out. Don't play loose and leave lots of blots around when your
opponent has a lot of return shots and a tough 4pt. board to come in on.
Patience is definitely a virtue in backgammon.
